C T H U L H U -- Does it work in Logic?

Started by Phase47

Hey Steve, just wondering how Cthulhu would work in Logic - is there a manual or a user-guide anywhere? Usually plugs like this don't work well with Logic or take some Environment hacking, etc., etc…

Cthulhu routes out the IAC Bus and then essentially appears as an MIDI input to Logic, like any physical input.

If you pencil notes on the Cthulhu then there is no Environment setup needed (simpy record-enable the destination track).

If you wish to play Cthulhu from a MIDI keyboard then you need to follow the typical setup (Click and Ports page, create an instrument, wire IAC bus to it, and then pick a destination instrument from this new instrument's output cabling).

Bought and had it working in Logic in 2 minutes - you're the best, Duda.

If i'm correct, you could also cable the instrument receiving notes from the IAC bus to the sequencer object so you can record the notes generated by Cthulhu, for editing

IAC Bus is activated but Cthulhu can't locate it.
I checked all instructions in the Manual.

When I open a new Physical Input the IAC Bus is there,
but Cthulhu can't detect it.

Im working here since 2 hours.

The IAC Bus needs to have:

1) "IAC " in the start of the Device Name as shown in /Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup.app -> Show MIDI Window -> Double-click IAC Driver
2) it also needs at least one bus created, though I believe one is created by default.

Does yours have these?

Warm Regards,
Steve

Have it working great in Logic except for one minor thing. I can't figure out how to turn Cthulhu's output into chords in a piano roll under the instrument it's hooked up to. I've tried messing with cabling in the environment but I can't seem to get it to work. Hooking things up via the "secure method" in the manual, it seems like it feeds midi data into the instrument, so it seems like Logic should just consider it to be a midi keyboard or anything else. Anybody been able to solve this issue? Thanks!

rename IAC-Treiber to IAC Treiber (with a space) and it should work. I will change that in the next update, didn't know the language difference adds a -

In order to print the output of Cthulhu, you need to unwire (select and delete) the Environment cable you have created, and record-enable the destination track. Of course, when you have done that, you don't want to record-enable Cthulhu track or it will feedback on itself.

Thanks a lot! Will try that when I'm back in front of my laptop. So delete the connection between the bus and the "instrument" object in the environment created in the setup process? How will signal flow from Cthulhu to the "actual" instrument then? Sorry, I've just never spent much time in the environment! Thank you.

the signal flows through the operating system (always, IAC Bus) since Logic doesn't have a built-in way to route MIDI from a plug-in.
So it's getting to the "actual" instrument because it is record-enabled.
The environment patching is only needed to have the Cthulhu track record enabled (when you want to "play" Cthulhu from a MIDI controller / have Cthulhu track record-enabled).

Steeeeeve I bought Cthulhu 4 days ago, the money has been taken out of my account and cleared, and I see no order history, product key, download available, nothing. What's the deal?? Thanks

EDIT: please disregard my contact email and this post, everything just appeared available to me :) Can't wait to give this a go!

Hi Ryan,

Our webserver has been having issues doing everything, including completing transactions. Those issues seem resolved mostly now that traffic has subsided. In any case you're all sorted!
If anyone else has purchased but can't download, don't hesitate to contact me immediately, just provide your email you used to sign up on this website and your paypal name or email. My email is [email protected]

OK I see. Thanks for bearing with my lack of knowledge with the environment! Watching your official video last night in Ableton was helpful too.

Is there a way to reduce the IAC BUS latency? It's impossible to play along with a beat due to the latency. I set it up as suggested in the manual btw with the clicks and ports method.

There is a switch in the top-right of the GUI on v1.01 in the Cthulhu registered user forum - which bypasses the latency compensation that Cthulhu adds to MIDI timestamps. There are a number of Logic handling improvements in v1.01 as well (such as arp sync, preventing stuck or muted notes).

I can get things very playable here with the aforementioned method!

Hope this helps,
Steve

Hello. I need some help getting cthulhu to properly work in FL studio. I need a good explanation as I'm not very pro at err… technical stuff.

Well, I've made cthulhu play the chords in other synths. It's brilliant. Now all that remains is to get the full chords, not the single notes played in cthulhu. I need to build on them, and actually get them into a pattern etc. I know I can use cthulhu all the time instead, but I want to see what's going on as well as build on the chords.

It seemed very easy in ableton. Duda told me it wasn't as easy in FL studio. He told me to download loopbe1, but I don't really know what to do now.

tl;dr I need a way to actually see the chords played in cthulhu instead of just the single notes I am pressing. FL studio.

Route Cthulhu to a MIDI Out device, route the MIDI out device to the port for LoopBe, have LoopBe available as a MIDI Input in FL.

If you choose to purchase I'm more than happy to support you further!

Oh, now I see! I didn't find loopbe in FL studio yesterday. Was probably tired.

Are you kidding? Of course I'll purchase. Outstanding support and awesome plugin.

So I tried what you said, probably wrongly and got the biggest crash ever! hahaha. I'll try again.

hey guys i already payed for this plugin, and did not receive any download link whatsoever, i have electronic ticket to prove my payment

i have to make clear, im writing here, because i have not received any help or support from Xfer, pls help me, this is not fair at all, and doesnt feel very profesional from u guys

thanx in advance
