Finding the key of a song/loop - general discussion

Hi Steve;

This is not directly related to any of your products, but wanted to get your opinion on the current software out there that is assisting musicians/DJs in tagging key/bpm to tracks. I was simply academically curious as to how this is even done (especially the key) and whether there is a remote possibility that Xfer might throw its' hat in the ring. I've been comparing ouputs of MixedInKey & Traktor (as two possible examples) and the result is not always perfectly accurate, especially in key detection.

getting key/BPM from tracks isn't something I plan in getting in to, I think attaining perfection (on key or BPM) with algorithmic approach would be an endless quest, and it's likely only a matter of time before AI can do all this flawlessly (although there can be ambiguity in both BPM and key in some situations).
