FL studio "Power users"

Started by Xince

Just have a quick question for you Steve.

I read through the image line power users section and found you. It says "FL means a whole lot, if I were restricted to one item of music software on my PC, it would certainly be FL.".

Can you confirm?

Ps. There's a bunch of artists that I've watched interviews about that are listed here that've said that they use mainly Ableton, Cubase, Reason, or Logic.
Do you think that Image line are trying to over-impress new producers?

PPs. I F***ING LOVE LFOTOOLS! IT'S LIKE METH… BUT BETTER!

I said that in 2001. it was a different software landscape back then, and FL was, at the time the most rapid way to make music in-the-box with samples and VSTs. Now there are so many options..

Popularity doesn't mean everything but here is a list, from most-to-least popular, amongst my users.

Ableton Live
Logic
Cubase
FL
Studio One
Sonar
Reaper
Renoise
GarageBand

There's various 'big names' in electronic music that use all of the above (and more programs not even listed here). It has much, much, much less to do about any sonic differences and has much more to do about workflow (what makes someone feel creative).

Since you seem to care I would recommend learning about ALL of the above, and maybe ProTools and Reason too. I use different tools at different times, but I get most mileage from Ableton Live these days (Hmmm, maybe I should datestamp this quote?!!)
