Legal Question

Started by LuckieNoob

I have a question.
Lets assume I want to create a sample pack and want to include some Whitenoise risers (whitenoise with a filter sweep and maybe some fx (very frequently used in edm)). Would it be legal to use serum to do this ? Since technically the noise oscillator uses samples. Same question goes for drums as you would use the noise osc to layer on a snare for example.

With a Serum license, you're allowed to use the factory included sounds in any music-making or any sound-design capacity.

Third-party samples could be subject to their own potential restrictions (though I haven't seen any cases of that).

Hope this helps,
Steve

I think you can create any sample in serum using the factory sounds, as long as you tweak it enough to where it's not the exact same sound as you started with.

As Steve stated, resampling 3rd party samples are a different story. You would have to clear it with their policies, unless you tweak the sample to where it is not identifiable… then there shouldn't be any risk.
