Serum Demo wont install

Started by maax555

Hi, downloaded serum demo and when I try to run I get the open with which program option. There are no suitable options and also the file does not show me what kind of file it is.

I will try one more time and download with chrome rather than IE

Oh, this is an easy one.

You aren't able to open it because it is a .dll file.

This .dll is a VST that I believe can't be run as standalone.

Therefore, you must have some sort of DAW (Digital Audio Workstation (i.e. FL Studio, Logic, Ableton, Reason) that can open and run .dll files.

To get this to run, for example in FL Studio, you would just select the .dll and move it to your designated VST folder. From FL Studio you would be able to locate it and run it.

Hope this helps!

Maybe you have an incomplete download (?) I would recommend to try re-downloading or try opening with 7-zip and extracting the contents.

Hi Khadgi,

I assume you are on Windows.

You could try right-click run as administrator or restart the machine. It's a pretty standard installer so I would think to restart the computer and try the install right away. Alternatively you could also extract the plugin and presets folder with 7-zip.

it stops download at 70-75% everytime, on pc, in mobile. what should i do? help me pls

I would suggest trying on another machine / when you have access to faster internet and copy the installer on a USB key or similar.

Whenever i install it, it shows everything is getting skipped and then it is written "Serum has been installed on this computer." then i open up the file folder and i don't find the .dll.

you can extract the DLL with 7-zip, or try installing it to e.g. desktop.

wtf…. i installed the demo several times on win10 without an obvious problem and afterwards i cant find the folder…
i tried several times. the folder isnt shown in the explorer, no matter where i install it on the hdd

if i search for it (xfer) on the system it shows the install file an a folder in wich i find several samples and pics but no runnable file at all…

thx for help ;)

There is no runnable file (executable), you need a VST host. Try selecting Desktop for the VST plugin on the installer, you should see Serum.dll appear there.

Same problem here on MacBook Pro. Installed the Demo to Macintosh, but not able to find it somewhere. Working with Ableton live 9 and theres no option to start the Serum Demo (Plugins). Any suggestions, pretty interested to try it out….

You need to go to Live preferences->File/Folder and enable "Use VST System Folders".

hi, when i download the serum demo it goes well and everything seems to be fine and it feels like a normal vst, but when i open fl studio and press "find morplugins" it isnt there. why is this happening?

Make sure you have a VST folder set (folder with + icon in the top-left of FL Plugin Manager) to the folder containing Serum_x64.dll (as selected when running the demo installer). This folder can be anywhere (I use C:\VSTPlugins personally) except the FL Generators folder.
