Nerve doesn't show up in Ableton

Started by fuxitmang

Fresh install of Ableton. All other plugins are detected with no issues. I uninstalled and reinstalled Nerve, it still isn't showing up with my other plugins. I'm installing Nerve to a folder on my C drive:

music production/plugins and samples/VST2

The installer placed a subfolder here called "Nerve" and I can see the DLL and the data folder. But it's not detected by Ableton. Restarting and rescanning don't help.

Please advise. Thanks.

Some more information. I tried loading the VST in Reaper, and it loads but only the x86 version. How do I install the version for 64 bit? That seems to be the problem since Ableton doesn't do 32 bit.

It looks like you have to install the "update" version to get the 64-bit plugin. I gotta say this isn't very intuititive, and I work with computers for a living. One would assume the update just… updates. Nothing on that download page is marked 32-bit or 64-bit.

I also have to be a squeaky wheel about the installer. It crashes constantly when trying to browse for a folder location. Like roughly 50% of the time, and I'm on a pretty beefy system (8600K, 32 gb RAM).

It looks like your product is cool, although I haven't had time to try it yet since I've spent the last hour banging my head against a wall just trying to make it show up in my DAW next to my other plugins. With all due respect, this isn't a great way to start in terms of the user experience for a $200 software product.

I would respectfully suggest that you:

  • Make a note on the download page clearly explaining that the update version is not just an update but rather the necessary installer to use the 64-bit plugin on any level
  • Work out the issues with your installer, specifically with regard to browsing for folder locations

I'm sorry if this comes off a little salty, but I value my time and don't like going down rabbit holes like this when things should just work. I wish you the best and I hope that anyone else who's running into these issues finds this post useful.

Another issue. Now that I've got Nerve showing up in Ableton, it's crashing every time I try to select the Nerve data folder upon opening the plugin.

I've tried to select the Nerve data folder after starting the plugin 5-6 times, turned off antivirus, restarted system, etc. but no luck. Every time I select the folder, I get a spinning cursor for about 2 seconds and then it crashes my DAW.

On a side note, I also don't see where in the plugin to put my license key and turn off demo mode.

I'm getting pretty close to wanting a refund and just going back to Battery. This shouldn't be so complicated to get working.

Now trying the beta sticked at the top of the other forum, same issue. After messing with the config to make Nerve display at a reasonable size, I'm trying to select the Nerve data folder, and the cursor just spins and my DAW crashes.

I saw in the other forum that somebody mentioned having this same issue. Your suggestion was to try the beta version (done), and if the issue persists then to delete the Nerve folder in Appdata. The problem is that if I delete the Nerve folder in Appdata, then the config setting that makes Nerve display at a reasonable size disappears and I can't use the "OK" button when it tells me to select my data folder. But if I make that config change then I can use the button… but again, trying to select the data folder crashes Ableton.

What is the process for initiating a refund when Nerve is bought through a 3rd party (pluginboutique)? On their site they say a refund can't be granted if the product has been downloaded or registered.

I swear I'm not trying to give you a hard time (honest), but I'm done messing around with this, and my joy at the idea using this new tool is pretty much dead after 2-3 hours of pointless frustration.

Sorry to hear it, I could get you up and running remotely in a few minutes I'd reckon. Please use the contact form.

Hi,

I can't figure out how to install Nerve. I Have managed to download and install the data folder first and second the installer(update) as recommended in the .PDF .. Now I open nerve in Ableton 11. but the only thing I see is a black screen.. I can't enter any serial an confirm the purchase.. Do you have any advise how to properly install Nerve? Thanks

The reason why I reinstalled nerve was the suddenly closing Ableton after loading any sample into Nerve.

Try downloading the beta update atop the Nerve forum - it is required for Big Sur.
