I took a blind chance on Serum 2 when I saw it added the Spectral Synth, I have been happy I did. (Granted, there is un-acceptable dearth of additive synths in the marketplace so I jump on anything I hear about.)
Still, I think this might be my new additive/re-synthesis/spectral synth since Apple bought Alchemy locked it inside of Logic.
But I have say a one feature would be greatly appreciated if they could be added to the Spectral Synth.
A better interface of spectrum/sine content inside of the Spectrum Synth. I am not looking for Metasynth level detail, or detailed control over individual sine wave partials. However, basic drawing, image manipulation and arranging functions ( like Windows Paint) and a way to understand the (x/y-kHz/time) of the oscillator would be greatly appreciated.
Right now, if I import a PNG into the spectral synth, I am not really sure how the elements of the image map to the default x/y-kHz/time of the oscillator. For example I imported a 400x800 image with the bulk of the image in the second quarter from the bottom, thinking I would end up with something between 2500-5000 hz range. Instead the import seemed to map it to a logarithmic scale, so the lower and upper range is wider than I expected.
And if I import a wav file, the content is fixed, I cannot make any changes to the actual spectral content. Like simple functions like adding/erasing particular frequencies, or cut and paste spectral content around.
If you guys would just add a few simple manipulation tools to the spectral oscillator, you guys will have a banger of a synth.
Peace
